The house on Third Street in Lafayette was my first real bachelor apartment, where I lived on my own. It cost me $175.00 per month, with 3 rooms, although the bedroom was really a walk-in-closet. The nearby railroad tracks were a common train assembly area, usually around 3 or 4 AM. They would slam huge, empty coal cars together to connect them into a train. I swear that this is one of the loudest sounds I have ever heard.
