XIV- Temperance - Another radical departure from traditional Tarot symbolism. Here Temperance is shown in the Alchemical sense as water tempering fire. This card resembles both the Case and Crowley versions of this card. For in both versions, an Angel holds fire in one hand and water in the other. Deep symbolism is woven into this unique card, for the candle is in the walled tower of Key XVI, and gives out light through one lone window like a lighthouse at night. On the Tree of Life, The 25th path is Samekh that rules both Sagittarius and Temperance. It connects the 6th Sephirah Tiphereth as the Sun,  symbolized by the flame of the candle, with the 9th Sephirah Yesod as the Moon, symbolized by the blue pool of water. The body of the candle marked with the ankh is the actual path of Samekh. Samekh is one of the few paths that are directly crossed by another path. That other path is the 27th path, assigned to the letter Peh, which rules both Mars and The Tower. Thus the brickwork behind the candle symbolizes the 27th path of Peh.
