WHAT CARDS IN THE TAROT DECK SHOULD BE CHOSEN FOR THE SIGNIFICATOR (QUERENT) IN A TAROT READING

Richard asked:

"Do you use the proper dates when choosing a court card significator for your client or in your teachings whether male or female? In other words, if you were reading for a woman born Aug 1st, would you use the Prince(King) of Wands as her significator or would you simply use the Princess(page) or Queen? I have always used a female card for a female and a male for a male but have lately had the urge to go by the date whether female or male. This would present me with the problem of distinguishing male or female if any courts showed up in the spread though. Any ideas?"

David Allen Hulse answered:

"As to the card for the querent (one who inquires of a Tarot reading) I have read the Tarot since 1966, and used every system in the book at one time. At first I used only The Magician or the High Priestess for a male or female inquirer. Later feminine cards for females, masculine for males in the 16 court cards, using the pictures of the specific deck to guide my decision. Later I used one of the 12 Major Arcana cards falling to the zodiacal sun sign of the querent. Now I use,  as the method to determine the querent, the sun sign from the G.D. system corresponding to one of the court cards (see page 305 of the Western Mysteries for this specific table)."
