“The Age of Flight”
-- by Joseph C. Dorffner, Sr. - Copyright 2000 --
Two brothers started tinkering,
in their bicycle shop.
Adding bits and pieces,
each the other’s ideas to top.
Soon they had devised wings,
to give lift upon the air.
Some wheels to aid in hauling,
assembled with craftsman care.
Then they found an engine,
to give it a little zip.
Though it seemed extra baggage,
on such a short planned trip.
A tail and some rudders,
to guide it in its flight.
Fabricated and wired together,
a rare, new unseen sight.
On a cold day in December,
in a place called Kitty Hawk.
Man took flight with wings,
to fly o’er the land he walk.
