“Autumn Delights”
-- by Joseph C. Dorffner, Sr. - Copyright 2001 --
Spectacular shades of early Autumn,
warm days and chilly nights.
The beauty of the reds and golds,
days filled with wondrous sights.
Kittens romping in leaps and bounds,
as leaves flutter down to earth.
Natures toys of shear enjoyment,
this first year since their birth.
Squirrels chattering from the trees aloft,
as nesting they build strong.
To weather out the wintery winds,
Mother Nature’s warning song.
Deer running playfully through the fields,
cleared now of their bountiful yield.
Awaiting for the soon of Winter’s come,
bringing a dress of snow-white shield.
For leaves, a long earned freedom,
from the tree that gave them birth.
Only to become the feast for growth,
enriching the soil of Mother Earth.
