“Brothers Divided”

Two brothers stood divided,
upon the barren ground.
Awaiting the cry “To battle”,
with its deathly sound.
Each wore a different color,
one blue and one gray.
Each awaited separate orders,
on that hot summer’s day.
Each knowing not the other,
about to fight his cause.
A moment of silent prayer,
life’s passage within a pause.
Across the wide division,
rifle shots were heard.
Bodies dropped in confusion,
as onward they were spurred.
Charging forth with bayonet,
each to find their mark.
Was each the others’ brother,
both lives there disembark.
