Playing on the river bank,
her footing it was lost.
Felled into the raging stream,
her body dunked and tossed.
Her trusting canine Daisy,
seen her thrashing there.
Leaped in and swam to her,
in hopes some strength to share.
The dog nudged against her,
shoved her toward the shore.
She grabbed a drooping tree branch,
brave Daisy seen no more.
Several days did come and pass,
Daisy did not return.
The heartbreak of the little girl,
of its presence that she yearn.
So she went in search of its remains,
but much to her surprise.
She found Daisy downstream nursing,
four pups with matching eyes.
