“Birth of a Butterfly”
-- by Joseph C. Dorffner, Sr. - Copyright 2001 --

Slithering 'cross a field of green,
a creapy crawler makes its way.
To the safety of a clump of brush,
a scheduled rest, there in stay.

From a tiny egg to this wormy stage,
upon leaf and stalk it has dined.
That it arrive at its new begin,
that Mother Nature, has outlined.

To the haven of a higher retreat,
with the sheltering of leaves abound.
Beneath a twig to bear its weight,
here secure, safe, and rebirth bound.

Self-spun into a silken shell,
its structure therein to re-form.
The magic at the Hand of God,
each new generation to conform.

One day the shell will open wide,
the beauty therein unfold.
Delicate, colorful, and mysterious,
a wonderious spectical there behold.
