| If you cross your eyes these pictures of mike and I at Changdeokgung Palace and Huwon it looks like we are standing together. Carrie uncross your eyes. Seriously though this is New Years Day in Seoul. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The pond. This pond is square and the island in the middle is round. I have illumined you all to some basic shapes Now, I will tell you that the pond is square because it represents earth and the island is round because it represents the heavens. I will also tell you that the kings used to fish in said pond. And that we did not. We in this case means everyone outside the we that the King of Korea can use. In this current time period it means Mike and I. |

| In the picture to your left, my right, is the old Imperial library. That was were they used to keep their books and send the smart kids to study. To the right of the pond is a courtyard where they used to hold the smart kid exams. These where akin to the SAT of our day and age. In the picture that gate is the one they passed through if the passed, if they failed, well they just sorta went home. And became the one that mothers pointed out to their lazy kids. "Do you want to end up like Kim Jong-il, no well then you best get your learn on. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| This is a picture of a bunch of westerners invading the palace. If you were every curious to what it would look like if a tourist group ever took to storming the historical sites they were visiting this is it. Possibly not very scary to a well trained army, but to national treasures that are photo sensitive they are the very devil. And quite frankly historical landmarks hate you. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| These are pictures of Jogyesa Temple. Due to the fact that we went on their most important holiday it was not open for tourists. But we wandered about it and then went to starbucks. The picture of mike is at the Temple's shrine. you can kind of see the offerings to your right hand side. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| These are pictures from the Korea House we went there for dinner and a performance. This is the first of many courses, Mike also ate with chopsticks, and declined the fork when offered. What you are seeing is kimchi, kimchi soup, and soy sauce in the bowls. In the wood things are assorted fillings for the rice pancakes in the middle. Starting with the yellow one and moving clockwise they are: egg, dried squid, ??, cucumber, carrot, beef, ??, and bok choi. In the smaller one is assorted dried food most of which I have no idea what is but two where beef related and two where fish related, in th middle only god knows. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| This is the look of a man working to get his food. The other is the look of a man posing for a picture so that he doesn't look as if he has to work at getting the food from the bowl to his plate. Mike was quite the pro at chopstick usage by the end of the week, and aside from some finger crampage offered no complaints. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| This is me and mike eating dinner. yup. that's about all there is to say about that. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| This is the performance part of the evening. This is the fan dance. Interesting unrelated fan fact. Koreans believe in fan death....do you? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| This is Mike and me with the dancers. I am tempted to tell you this is for posterity but i will refrain. Though some people I know would not. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| This is Sung-Jae Lee playing the hourglass drum. Interesting note, though we both have one of the most common Korean Names, we are not related. I will tell you that my students love that I don't have some crazy foreign name. Ee-Jae-Ni is nice easy and not hard to remember. Gotta love a place where over 50% of the population is named after the number 2 (Ee) or seaweed (kim) | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The Folk ensemble pretty sweet. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| This is mike leaving for the west. Please note the sadness. There was a trip to the airport, a game of spite and malice, and a lunch at KFC after this. Then no more mike. A sad day. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| This is the conclusion of my pictures of mikes visit if you want to see the first page go and do it, if you want to return to the index you may, if you want to sign my guest book I'd be delighted. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
