"WHO ARE YOU? WHAT DO YOU DO?"

Oh, of course...the most logical first questions, I believe. *L* You must have stumbled in here pretty abruptly to not know much of what we're about. Don't feel too silly, though; we've all been there. Just ask Green Rat sometime! But anyway, I'll explain...

Take a nice look around you. This is Trench Rat Headquarters. Most of it's sunk underground, in the woods, so it can't be seen easily either from ground or from the air. We had to better camouflage the place after the bombing in early 1941, when many of our number were killed...

Oh, sorry, I'm getting ahead of myself! That story can wait until later. I'll give you the bare facts right now.

Our leader is Sergeant Black Rat. He took over later in 1941, after Sergeant Camo went MIA. (During the bombing...as I said, I'll explain that more later on.) Co-leader is Corporal Gold Rat, taking over from Corporal Drake (also MIA); in the event that both of them should be unable to perform their duties, then 2nd Lieutenant Burgundy Rat is the third in command. (Yes, quite odd, isn't it, that a lieutenant should take orders from a sergeant and a corporal? Well, it was Camo who put us in such a situation. You have to admire a guy who could make a lieutenant subordinate to a sergeant. ;) )

The Trench Rats First Battalion was established in 1934 with the purpose of obtaining confidential information on the enemy (the Nazis), and for freeing prisoners from concentration camps. What's that you say? We knew about the camps that early on? And the US wasn't even involved in any conflicts at so early a date? I have a bit more information than the average Trench Rat, and can tell you that our timelines differ. The World War II we're fighting is a much different one from the one you fought. For reasons I can't explain, I have knowledge of the general course of both wars, as well as events that happened before and after; I will refrain from divulging TOO much of this information, for fear of muddling anybody's mind. <:) It can too easily happen, you know.

Anyway, as I was saying, we were "founded" in 1934, under leader Camo Rat and Drake Rat; when both went missing in 1941, Black and Gold took over. At this time many of our number were either killed or went missing, and so a new wave of Trench Rats was called in to take their places. Whenever I introduce you to one of us, I will take care to inform you if he is one of our original members or a newer recruit.

There are many personnel around here that you should meet. Black, Gold, and Burgundy are among them. However, I will save such introductions for later entries in this log, and right now will simply tell you who you should go to or where you should go if you need anything.

Black and Gold are the ones you approach should you have any important information regarding our battalion, enemy attacks, or anything else that could be considered an emergency. Though both are open minded, I suggest you not bother them overmuch with trivial details; they have many things to do, and so little time to do them in, so please don't go to them unless the matter is of the utmost importance.

Burgundy is our head surgeon. If your arm has been cut off, just go to him and he'll patch you up good as new. ;) Otherwise, there are other medical personnel you can contact for "lesser" matters: Lance-Corporal Lyndsey Skye will make you feel right at home should you need any medical assistance (she has a MUCH better bedside manner than Burgundy), and LC Indigo Rat and Private First Class Amaranth Rat are also around to lend a hand.

LC Mahogany is in charge of the refugee compound. We keep that separate from our HQ; housing facilities are basic, but a great improvement over what they were offered in the camps. You may find Mahogany a bit of a trouble to deal with, but trust me, he's good people.

LC Doomsday (D-Day) Rat is our chief engineer. Contact him if you need anything fixed or anything REALLY heavy lifted. He's a genius, and quite tough to boot. You can usually find him wandering around, tinkering someplace.

LC Papillon is our contact among the French, 1st Lt. Donovan Bradford among the British, and Sgt. Stephen Gerhardt among the Germans. Do NOT contact Gerhardt; he is undercover among the Nazis, and you would endager his life should you try to contact him through us.

And last but not least, there is always LC Turquoise Rat, who helps maintain friendly relations among our number, and who can also show you around a bit should you like.

Feel free to contact any of them (except Gerhardt!) if you need to.
