OUT OF TIME

Out Of Time is the seventh novel in the proposed D Is For Damien series, and takes place in February 1992. To this day it unfinished and mostly unwritten, though a basic plot has been drawn up (which may be changed drastically at a future time). Like the majority of the D Is For Damien novels, I have no plans to work on it in the near future.

Basic synopsis: Psyche Cooper, for some reason, decides to try to infiltrate Scorpio to gain possession of the stolen dagger first mentioned in Tall, Dark...& Lethal. There's one big catch, however: In order to be allowed fully into the cult, she has to undergo "the Acceptance"--which means giving herself over to the high priest, Luther Broderick--who she attempted to kill not that long ago! Not only that, but cultist Alicia, who tended to Luther after his wounding, wishes to undergo the Acceptance herself--and views Psyche as an obstacle to be dealt with as soon as possible. I don't know if Psyche ever regains the dagger before managing to escape the cult...but a truly strange relationship between herself and Luther is formed, which may help explain her later relationship with Puck Benteen (The Scorpio Murders).

THIS STORY IS STILL IN ROUGH FORM, TYPOS AND PLOT HOLES INCLUDED. Please point them out, but don't expect me to be surprised.

Interesting story tidbits: The POV character of the story is not Damien--in fact, aside from scenes in which he may be searching for Psyche, his character has quite limited page time here, compared to the other stories; this is the first of the novels to have a considerably more "adult" theme, dealing with Psyche's and Luther's relationship and the "Acceptance" ritual; Alicia's character becomes more prominent; and the title of this particular novel was taken from a then-popular REM album, one of whose songs, "Losing My Religion," was constantly running through my head as I thought of this story. :)
