My Pet Peeve With Animation You may be wondering why I wrote this, and part of me is wondering along with you. Most of it is probably just because I need something to put in the writing section. Anime is actually a very good form of entertainment. I might even be tempted to say that it is better than cartoons from the USA, and probably would have said that not even a year ago, but they each serve their own purpose, even though I can say that I like anime more. They are usually better at creating and continuing a storyline than normal cartoons, with the notable exceptions of the Dragon Ball and Pokemon series. Even when US animators, and even the people who create normal shows, try to make a show with a storyline they fail miserably. They just don't get that all good things must come to an end, and decide to drag them out and let the core of the show rot away, turning it into a hollow shell of its former self. Look at Samurai Jack. Not the worst storyline - the wandering warrior looking for a way to return home and defeat the ultimate evil may not be a very original story, but sometimes tried and true is good. I'll even give it the fact that each episode stands alone fairly well, but as a continuing show they aren't that good. The first few shows were good, but after awhile you just give up on the noble idiot. I mean its been what, 20 times that he has given up a perfect way home to save someone or do something else stupidly noble. Doesn't he get that if he goes back in time and beats Aku, no of those people he went to save would have been in danger, and probably wouldn't exist? But American cartoons aren't the only ones guilty of this. There is always DBZ and Pokemon. But anyway, that's a big mark against animators and the cartoons they make to me. Since I want to keep this short so I can go back to doing more interesting stuff, I won't mention anymore of the things I don't like about animation - that might be a topic of further discussion later. I'll think about it.
