Alpine Bypass Switch For CVA-1003 or Other Alpine In-Dash TV Models
Ahhhh Those guys at alpine, are something else. They sure know how to make an install fun! When you buy an in-dash Tv from Alpine, They make it so that you can't watch Tv when you drive, When you have the Tv/Dvd player on when your driving, you get a message on the screen that says something to the effect about, viewing sound only while you drive, and there will be a black screen, hence...No video while in motion! How they do that consists of 2 wires, 1 wire must go to your brake pedal (+), And 1 wire Must goto your Parking Brake (-). When you want to watch Tv, You have to hold in the brake pedal, and press and release the parking brake 3 times, then let go of the brake. By doing that allows the Tv/Video to display on the screen so you can watch it when your parked. Now i dont know about you, but I personally like to have the Video on when I drive, and obviously thats not possible if your supposed to have the parking brake up. If your on a long trip etc. with someone, nothing is cooler than being in the passenger seat and playing playstation 2 or watching a movie. So... In order to make that possible, the easiest way is to do the following: 1. Hook up the brake pedal up as you normally would. And instead of wiring the parking brake wire to the parking brake, Connect it to a Ground! Then in between somewhere, cut the wire, and put a basic switch on it, Therefore, if you turn the car on, hold in the brake pedal, flip the switch 3 times, and your good to go! You can also do this while your driving... When your at a traffic light, or what have you, Just push the brake down a little and flip the switch 3 times. In other words, your tricking the system into thinking your parked with the parking brake up, and your Tv/Video will come on. Good Luck.
Mounting A Playstation 2 Under The Glovebox
This has the Cleanest Look, Especially if you have a black interior.... Under the Glovebox, Take off the cover piece that is connected by a few screws. Then take 2 mounting L-brackets & screw them into your PS2 (dont worry, there's clearance inside as long as you dont use big screws) Then align the PS2 onto the cover piece that would go under your dash, and then re-install it back in. Looks very clean, and Flush. Tip: Take apart your PS2 to check where the clearance is for your screws.
