Big's Condition Latest News!!!!

Big's condition - 17 Sept 2003.  The condition of Big D2B or Apichet Kittikornchareun or his new name Panrawat, is still the same as yesterday. His blood pressure is 120 with his heart rate beating 80-110 times a minute. He can still breath on his own with the respirator for about 16-20 minutes. Doctors said his condition is still the same, there hasn't been any bleeding again. As for the lesions in his kidneys, there still hasn't been any problems. They are still giving him the medicine from Australia with another medicine to kill the bacteria, which is doing pretty good. But they don't know if the lesions in his brain will burst because if it does bursts and blood comes out, that will be the end. Yesterday, Udom (Big's father) said a monk suggested that he build 'Pra Phra Tahn Kanad Tow Big', so it will extend his life. Then 'oot suon kosol hai kub jow kam nai wen' (this I understood but I have no idea how to translate that- so if anyone wants to give it a try, go ahead too). Doctor Manoon who went to a seminar in Chicago USA, was always worried about Big's condition. He called everyday from Chicago to see how Big was doing. He told his other seminar attendees about Big's case and they said that what the doctors in Thailand did was what should have been done. How long the patient live will be up to the patient themselves now. They praised that the doctor in Thailand were really good and the treatments they gave and used on Big from the begining was what should have been done(or so thats what he told the other doctors in Thailand-how would we know for sure?). Doctor Manoon also said that staying outside his country is much better than in Thailand because there's no worries Doctor Manoon will be returning to Thailand on the 18 of September.( Credit : Thairath, translate by "June" )

Fungus tightens its grip on 'Big' - 15 Sept 2003.  The fungal brain infection sustained by critically ill singer Apichet "Big" Kittikorncharoen has entered its final stage, with any further deterioration in his condition likely to result in death, one of his doctors said yesterday. Dr Kasiansom Veeranuvat, a neurologist at Vichaiyut Hospital, said the singer's brain was still bleeding and swollen and had many lesions. He added that Apichet had lost weight. "We are also worried that he might have sustained a lung infection," Kasiansom said. Apichet fell into a coma soon after his car plunged into a polluted canal on July 22. Diagnosed with a fungal brain infection, he has undergone four brain operations. Dr Samanee Milinthangura, an expert in fungi and microorganisms, yesterday said her team suspected that the fungus might have already entered Apichet's bloodstream and spread throughout his body. "If it's in the blood, it will be most difficult to treat," she said. She also expressed concern that the fungus appeared to have become resistant to certain medications.Fans of the young singer continued to flock to the hospital to wish Apichet a miracle recovery. Meanwhile the Supreme Patriarch has granted a new name to Apichet upon his parents' request. The new name is "Panrawat", meaning one who lives on others' wishes. (Credit : The Nation)

'Big' given no chance of recovery - 11 Sept 2003.  Heartthrob singer Apichet Kittikorncharoen, or "Big", has no chance of recovery as his brain has started bleeding again, a neurologist said yesterday. Dr Kasiansom Veeranuvat said Apichet's brain damage was too severe for him to return to normal, even if the bleeding could be stopped. The doctor said that more lesions had been found on the singer's brain, along with two lesions on his kidneys. "I think the most he will be able to do is blink," Kasiansom said. Apichet suffered an acute fungal infection of his brain after his car plunged into a polluted canal on July 22. He has already undergone four brain operations at Vichaiyut Hospital. Kasiansom said doctors would not perform any more brain surgery on Apichet. Dr Manoon Leechawengwong, who is heading the medical team treating Apichet, examined him before leaving for a conference overseas. Late last month, Manoon said Apichet was recovering and had a chance of being discharged from intensive care soon.

'Big' may soon leave ICU - 05 Sept 2003.  Pop singer Apichet Kittikorn-charoen has made a remarkable recovery while in a coma and might soon be well enough to leave the intensive care unit, his doctor said yesterday. Dr Manoon Leechawengwong said the heartthrob singer was now able to breathe normally without the help of a respirator. His ability to blink, cough and react to stimuli was also encouraging, the doctor said. Apichet, better known as "Big" from the D2B boy band, has been treated at Vichaiyut Hospital since a near-fatal car accident in June. The pop star sustained a serious fungal infection to his brain after his car plunged into a polluted canal. He has undergone a series of brain operations. "I will be better able to predict his chances and move him out of the ICU if his condition does not worsen in the next seven days," Manoon said. He said Apichet's chance of survival had increased after his brain stopped bleeding 12 days ago. "This is the most positive I have been since I started treating him," Manoon said. He said the singer's parents play D2B songs in Apichet's room all the time and the room is filled with am-ulets and sacred items, most of which were sent by well-wishers. "I think another miracle can happen to Apichet," the doctor said. (credit : The Nation)

Singer can blink, move arm - 01 Sept 2003.  Heart-throb singer Apichet Kittikorncharoen remains in a coma, his doctor said yesterday. On his 41st day in hospital the singer was able to blink and move his left arm and had a normal heart rate, said Dr Manoon Leechawengwong, who heads a medical team treating Apichet at Vichaiyut Hospital. Apichet, a member of boy-band D2B, developed a serious fungal infection in his brain after his car plunged into a polluted canal on July 22. He was rushed to a hospital in Samut Prakan before being transferred to Vichaiyut Hospital in Bangkok. Manoon said he would order more voriconazole, the only medication known for such infections, from Australia tomorrowThe doctor said his prime concern was no longer the lesions that had formed on Apichet's brain. "I am just concerned about [a recurrence of] bleeding in the brain," Manoon said. Apichet's fans continued to show up at the hospital yesterday to show support for the singer.
