Chas, as he was known only had one eye, this was due to an accident with a whip. He had a varied career as in the 1881 Census he was listed as a Cordwinder's Apprentice. He later was the local Fish Monger, owning two ponies and traps.He even supplied Covent Garden, London with tons of both Black Berries and mushrooms, that others in the Village collected every morning for him. He lived at Rose Cottage, Coads Green where all of the children were born, in the same house as he was born in.  He won the Queen Victoria Scholarship at Coads Green as a boy. He died of Cancer at a little place named Banta near Condon's Shop, Cornwall.
