Miri, Flying Colours is in full flight, cranking up the volume every night at The Clipper the Holiday Inn Miri's popular nautical-themed fun pub.
Just two weeks into their three-month stint, the dynamic eight piece band is drawing ever increasing crowds, hardly surprising considering they have arguably one of the tightest rhythm sections on the Malaysian club scene and a crack frontline that includes veterans Keith Pedley and Terrence Law a.k.a T-rex (Kamikaze)
If last Saturday's capacity was anything to go by, the band is on the fast track to recapturing the magic of 1999, when they were last in Miri and drew capacity crowds nightly.
This time around, they are eight strong sporting female vocalists. Original singer Dona Lisa Guerzo is still her dynamic self and the addition of Clair Rozells makes for a really versatile and power-packed frontline.
Keith and Terrence's vocals are in superb form this time around. Their vocals can be fluid one minute and hard driving the next.
The band attributes their success to years of pub gigs and building grassroots followings wherever they performed. They have also taken the trouble to consistently adapt their repertoire to suit the audiences in different places.
Flying Colours has been around since 1991 and seen rock progress from the rather angsty style of the early 90's to alternative rock in the late 90's and have adapted accordingly.
Indeed, if you saw them performing at The Clipper, you'd wonder if there could be a better bunch of entertainers in the whole of Malaysia. One of Malaysia's most successful bands, they have so much going for them it's almost criminal! Explosive performances, crafty talent and looks to die for! Flying Colours are guilty on all charges.
