Notes on use

Calculation from gear train

  • Click No 4th Wheel if appropriate
  • Enter numbers of teeth on each wheel and pinion using the keypad to enter the values (CE = Clear Entry if you go wrong) and one of column of buttons beside the wheel windows to load the value into the window. Representative values for a watch are loaded initially as an example.
  • Click on Calc f'm Gears
  • Calculator will provide values for Vibrations per second, per hour, per minute and pendulum length (interesting, but not much use, in the case of a watch!)
  • Calculator also provides revolutions / minute of the 4th wheel (if there is one) - a value of "1" means, of course, that a second hand may then be driven directly.

Calculation from Vibrations per Minute

  • This function is provided to provide information for missing wheels or pinions.
  • Put a value of Zero in only one of the wheel or pinion data windows
  • Put representative numbers in all the other wheel and pinion windows, including the fourth wheel and pinion if appropriate
  • Enter the value for Vibrations per Minute using Keypad and load it into the calculator by clicking Calc from v/m
  • If the right vibration / minute figure is already in its window just click Calc from v/m
  • Non-integer values for numbers of teeth are obviously a nonesense but this indicates more work is required

Calculation from Pendulum Length

  • Enter pendulum length (in inches) on the Keypad and transfer it to the calculator using Calc from Pdlm
  • The Vibrations per Minute window will be updated with the answer
  • If one of the wheel or pinion teeth values is set at "0" then clicking Calc from v/m will carry the calculation right through from pendulum length to required gear train
