Swami Narayanan (1893-1964)

Narayanan was born in May 1893 as the elder son of Krishna Pillai and Pappi Amma of Chenakkara house in Kolani Thodupuzha.he ha dprimary education from Kolani.Passed VSSLC(7th class) from Sarkar School Thodupuzha. He married Nani Amma from Thayyil Kudayathoor at the age of 22. He had 2 daughters an d2 sons .Rmakrishna Pillai an d Gowri Amma are still alive.

Swami Narayanan fought against un touchability. Worked among Hill tribes of Muthiyamala, Chithirapuram and Kunchithanni.He participated in the vaikom Sathyagraha between 1924-25. He met Mahathma Ghandi at Vaikom. Ghandi invited him to Vardha. During the journey to Vardha he took part in the freedom struggle in Mysore na dgot jailed for 20 months. When released he joined Vardha.He studied techings of Vivekananda an dRamakrishan and joined Sri Ramakrishna Mission. Spent 5 years in Vardha .Ghandi asked him to return to Travancore. He returned in 1930. Founded an asram in Moolamattom. He founded another asram in Anickadu village of Kottayam near Pallikathodu. Many became his disciples. He founded an EnglishMiddled School SVV in Mukkali in 1937.Later it was upgraded-the present NSS HS Anickadu west. T.A.Narayana Pillai, Pittanal Ayyappan Pillai and V.G.Nair were local managers. Later it was given to NSS.

In 1940 he founded an Asram in Thadiyur,Pathanamthitta with the help of Thottavallil Asan.Mahatma Mahatma Gandhi visited this asrama and wrote notes in visitor’s book.

In 1940 he stayed with Srinivasan Pillai of Arattukadavil Madom,Kandiyur ,Mavelikara.With him he toured Kuttalam,Thirunelveli Rameswaram, Dhanushkody and Madhura. He founded Sri Ramakrishana Asram in Elanji(Aytharuvi in Kuttalam with the help of T.S.Kuttalingom Pillai,the Village Munsif M.N.A.Nadimuthu Pillai , T.K.Chidambara Natha Muthaliyar were his disciples Dr.Meesu MA.PhD from Netherland became the desciple of Mahirshi Remana and accepted the name to Swami Ekaresa stayed with Swami Narayanan

Then he returned to Mavelikara and stayed with Srinivasan Pillai in Kandiyur. Artist Ramavarma Raja ,Pathradhipar Kurian and Kuttiyil Raman Pillai prompted Swamikal to found a school in Mavelikara.

He went to Premadom Pathanamthitta and stayed with Akletu Chellappan Pillai, Founder of Nethaji School for some time. For participating in Satyagraha of State Congress he was jailed in Pathanathitta. Whole of his property were confiscated by C.P. Swamikal send his wife and daughters to Mahilalayam of Srimathy Chinnamma in Trivandrum and sons to Sri Ramakrishansram Haripadu.

When India became indipendent Nehru Government gave 4 acre sof forest land to Swamikal in Moolamattom. He constructed a hut their and brought back his family to Moolamattom He went samadi on 16th November 1964 at the age of 70.

In connection with Golden Jubilee of NSSHS Anickadu his portrait was unveiled there on 10th Aug 1991
