Honors Physical Science: Chapter 8 Study Tips
photo

I am so so so so so so so so sorry for not being here today with 7th period. I was presenting something for my masters degree at Ashland. I had to present my case study...I was one of the last so I didn't get a chance to come back in time for 7th period. Hopefully, Mr. Pauly did good. I know that all of the kids love the Pwiz!

Chapter 8 test will be tomorrow DECEMBER 12TH, 2007!

Here is what you must know!

1. Water that contains such high levels of unwanted materials that it is unacceptable for drinking is polluted water.

2. Gaslike mixture of positively and negatively charged particles is plasma.

3. The law which states that if the volume of a container of gas is decreased, the pressure of the gas will increase provided the temperature does not change is Boyles Law.

4. The buoyant force on an object in a fluid equal to the weight of the fluid displaced by the object: Archimedes principle.

5. The amount of energy needed to change a material from a liquid to a gas is the heat of vaporization.

6. Changing of liquid to a gas gradually at temperatures below the boiling point is evaporation.

7. Repeating geometric arrangement of particles in a solid is crystals.

8. Solid, liquid, gas, and plasma are the states of matter.

9. SI unit of pressure is pascal.

10. Person who stated that pressure exerted by a fluid decreases as the velocity of the fluid increases is Bernouli's.

11. State of water at 25degrees is liquid.

12. Refers to matter expanding as it gets hotter and contracting as it gets cooler is thermal expansion.

13. Pressure applied to a fluid is transmitted unchanged throughout the fluid is Pascal's principle.

14. Amount of force exerted per unit area is pressure.

15. Amount of energy it takes to change a material from a solid to a liquid is the heat of fusion.

16. The idea that matter is made up of tiny particles that are in constant motion is the kinetic theory of matter.

17. Determines whether an object will sink or float in a fluid is the buoyant force.

18. Changing of a gas to a liquid is condensation.

19. Physical state of ice is the solid state.

20. The volume of a gas increases with increasing temperature provided the pressure does not change: Charle's law.

21. State of water vapor is the gas state.

22. Identifying three ways to use freshwater is to (A: fill a fish tank, fill a pool, take a pill, wash your car, wash dishes, drink freshwater.)

23. Identifying three substances that are polluting fresh water supplies is (A: pesticides, acid, herbicides.)

24. You can do to reduce water pollution is to (A: build cooling towers, don't pollute the water with pesticides, high acid, or herbicides.)

25.  Scientists are dealing with water pollution by (A: building cooling towers, setting pollution laws, decrepit decrees, coup d'etat?)
