A. Documentation of the Development Process- My uncle has been hand-crafting furniture in his garage as a hobby and selling select items to the public for decades. Many of his customers have recommended to him that he start his own official online business. The intent and purpose of this website is to provide the online community a fair chance to buy his hand-made furniture for a competitive price. As a small business owner, he hopes to gain the trust of people through his website and ultimatley undercut the larger furniture corporations. The intended audience for this website is anyone of any age looking to purchase furniture. Steps taken in creating this website consisted of reviewing similar small business websites, creating a requirement checklist of what we want to see on the website, and request consumer feedback and critique on the website in order to ensure all goals are met.
B. Defense of the Final Product- For this website, we wanted to keep the layout as simple as possible yet appealing to end-users. The main goal is to sell furniture however it is important to capture the attention of the end-user first. I chose to construct all pages of the website with a yellow background and black lettering with a single black border. This is a catchy color combination to apply to each page creating an overall fluid and consistent flow. The end-user can engage in reviewing photos as well as videos of furniture. The available furniture page allows the user to view all furniture ready for purchase. Included on this page as well as all others is the navigation pane for easy access throughout the site. The viewer can also participate in completing a form in the "contact me" section. The consumer will fill out their contact info as well as select the best time of day to be contacted to inquire abut special orders. The contact us page is simple with the navigation pane and the business information such as address and phone number.
C. Opportunities for Improvement and Growth- In the future I would like add more photos of furniture crafted as well as more video of the furniture being made right in the garage. I would like to add a section where people can go to design their own furniture, and have my uncle execute the plans to have it made for them. Another thing I would do differently is incorporate a more unique but readable font type.
