        Sorry I am so far behind! Bad news: the little dove chick that hatched on the 5th died the same day. I don't know why, other than it wasn't fed. They have been sitting on another egg that they had a week later. I really don't have much hope for it, either. Image

        As for the finches: they are doing very well. I have them all seperated right now by sex. There are six males and seven females. Two of the males cheeks are actually coming in black, not orange! I have been scouring the internet for information about this seemingly strange mutation, and will continue to do so. The books I have don't even mention it! (I need new reading materials, it appears!) So far, what I know is 1) Black-cheek is a recessive gene, and 2) it first appeared in the US in the 1990's. Not much to go on currently.
