ANOTHER SEXUAL SCANDAL2002-08-26 Another accusation of sexual abuse of children by church officials
is again on the agenda by media around Australia. This
time that accusation touched Sydney Archbishop of Catholic
Church George Pell. He has denied and strongly rejected such
allegations of molesting altar boy at a camp on Philip Island almost
forty years ago, when he was there as a priest. Dr Pell
decided to step aside for church inquiry, which will be heading by
former Victorian Supreme Court justice Alec Southwell. Some people are very happy that such inquiry has been taken, but questions remain
whether the Church is capable for truly independent investigation or
not. Secondly, that is accusation of sexual assault against children,
then why won’t the Police take this in the hands of the law? Is there something wrong with our justice system or not, because that situation
simply not protecting innocent victims. Victims of any crime should be put
first, but what happened up here that a politician like the Prime
Minister of Federal Government of Australia stay firm behind the
accused and he never stood for any victim of sexual abused. I don’t
know what kind of person he is, but he claimed before that he is a
family man. Maybe he could explain why his Government did nothing to
clean up bad shadows from the past of sexual abuse against
children. Mr Howard praised the Church for taking inquiry in their
hands about accusation of sexual abused. Maybe someone could
tell me, because I have never heard that if anybody was assaulted
in a family environment, that parents were taking investigation in
their own hands. That is so much crap thinking that such inquiry will be
fully independent and properly investigated. Internal body can
investigate only sexual misconduct, because any sexual or violent
abuse its simply criminal offence. Proper authorities like the Police can
only investigate criminal offences. On the other hand with that
particular matter, people who are accused of such unspeakable behaviour of sexual
abuse against innocent children, should be investigated without any
prejudice against them and presumed victims. That’s meaning that if
investigation has enough evidence to support charges, should go to court
if not, information about people involved should never be released. But
often that is not the case. Why so often many accusations are revealed before any
investigation is conducted? How many accusations go to court and
verdicts are simply “not guilty” and the last word from the judge is mostly
that: “it is such poor evidence that this case should never be on the
criminal trial”. Most of all how many judgments on some accusations,
which have been done in the past were based on real evidence or simply
judgments were passed by circumstantial evidence and believing on one
side of story. The Federal Government hasn’t done anything or I should
say not enough in that area how we ought to handle, manage and
investigate all allegations of sexually abused kids from the past.
That situation never stops damaging reputation for victims and accused.
But truth of dreadful suffering and negligence of innocent
children being sexually abused in the past, always and I’m saying always should
be properly addressed for better handling in the future allegations
