LIBERAL WON2001-11-11 Federal Election in Australia is over. On the 10th
of November Australian people decided about their future. That future is still
in Coalition hands. Liberal party retained again to the power. Coalition’s
partners – Liberal and National swept to third term in a big swing to Labor
party which ended Kim Beasley’s leadership as an opposition leader.
What’s happened that Labor lost the election? Nothing unusually
happened. Only terrorism came along and we have had flood of boat people. Nobody
has doubts about it that those circumstances sank ALP on Saturday.
Labor has to admit that failed on emigration issue and strong leadership. Liberal
on the other hand doesn’t need to fool us that they won because of
their economic or social performance. Everyone knows very well that election
was based on “boat people” and emigration policies. That doesn’t mean that
Coalition has a good or better solution in that case. Only very good performance by
Prime Minister John Howard and tough stand by him gave them enough lead to
win. People mostly were voting on major parties because Coalition played
scare campaign against independent candidates that they couldn’t manage
properly and defend our country against terror. Only independents very well
known by communities could make the difference and they did. In a Senate
government will be dealing with Greens, Democrats and independents. One Nation lost
any chance to get any sit. They lost popularity because Liberal at last
starts talking tough on emigration field. That’s ironical that 5 years ago they
were opposing against such things, accusing Pauline Hanson and One Nation of
resist nature. What has Liberal done, it’s exactly the same what
Pauline Hanson was talking about a few years back. Now we see very
interesting situation in our politics and I would like to see how Mr Howard would
stand with his view about boat people after election. We see whether he will
be still listening to people and communities or we will be waiting again 3
years for next election before he start listening to us again. Coalition will be
having a very tough time on economical and social field and we hope that
they will manage very well with these problems not raising our taxes. Labor on
other hand has to learn their own mistakes and come up with better ideas
than they did before. And finally we can come back to our lives and forget all
the nasty things, which came up during election. Simply life has to go on.
