REFERENDUM Referendum – a public vote taken on a question of
government or law. Referendum is compulsory because government wants to
know exactly what all citizens (over 18 years old) are thinking about
particular question and they are giving chance to make decision by
majority of people. Politicians that way drop their responsibility on
citizens. Very interesting is that that politicians give up their rights to make
decision in trivial matters or show off. Last referendum in Australia about republic
is the best example of that. Why politicians are so afraid, why they
don’t like asking people what they think. They think that they know
everything better than community, than citizens. That is not true.
They are not smarter than we are. They are not more intelligent than
we are. Often politicians are dumb. Of course arrogance and
hypocrisy is their nature. They like when people have to grab
“sorry” from them, because they don’t have enough decency and honesty to
say that without any pushing from the public. That is very sad. More,
that is not acceptable. I don’t understand why politicians abused their
positions and after that they are still sitting in a parliament. But is very
simple explanation for that. We can’t throw them out from the office. We have rights electing them but we have no rights sacking them. Now I understand, why
politicians don’t like changes. What for. They make the law. Not we. Not citizens. Some people think that in democracy referendum is the bridge of
equality between citizens and politicians (particularly government). But
they are very wrong, because in politics referendum is using for camouflage,
for political motive. Not for regular communication with citizens. I hope that
in the near future that will change. We are now living in a computer and
Internet century. I think that will bring us closer to democracy and
politicians closer to community. After that referendum will be the main
part of our parliamentary system, our democracy, and our life. Back to home page |
