Sodomy
In today's society more and more cases of teen pregnancies and sexual promiscuity has risen in at an alarming rate. Girls are becoming sexually active as young as 10 or 9 years old, and boys an average age between 12 and 13. Because of this local, state and national governments have sponsored the so called 'safe sex' campaigns in order to educate teens about the hazards of having unprotected sex, but still there is much ignorance about many subjects regarding sexuality, intimacy, and especially the reality about Sodomy.
The word Sodomy, now a day, is defined as anal or oral copulation with a member of the same sex; but the actual meaning of sodomy is sexual acts other than coital (vaginal intercourse) sex between a man and a woman. This means that sodomy includes everything from anal penetration all the way to paraphilia.
Sodomy can be divided into 4 categories:
1. Masturbation
2. Paraphilia
3. Frottage
4. Anal penetration
Why masturbation is considered sodomy? First let's define masturbation. Masturbation is the sexual stimulation of one's own genitals to the point of climax or orgasm which is performed by different types of bodily contacts by the use of objects or tools, or by some combinations of these methods. Since masturbation's goal is to receive sexual pleasure by a mean other than vaginal intercourse it falls under the sexual acts that imply Sodomy. Another form of masturbation is autoeroticism or mutual masturbation where a couple masturbates or stimulates sexually their partner's sexual organs by using the hands or other body part or sexual toys or tools.
Many critics argue that masturbation has benefits, and that it is healthy for men to masturbate once a month so as to ejaculate extra sperm. This is false, our bodies have a natural mechanism that takes care of the extra sperm and releases them while men sleep, called nocturnal emissions or wet dreams. This is achieved by semi or fully erotic dreams that stimulate the man's sexual mechanisms.
Biblically masturbation is referred by the Bible in Matthew 5:27-30[1]. Masturbation is most commonly found in men, and Jesus knew that in order for a man to reach sexual climax while masturbating he had to imagine his partner copulating the sexual act, which meant the man would lust the woman in his heart. Another way for a man to masturbate, which involves lust, is by watching pornography.
One of the main problems of masturbation is that it is addictive and can become sort of like a gateway drug, in which after a while masturbating won't be enough and gradually your sexual impulses will desire for more.
Girls also don't help in the matter. One thing women should have in mind is that men are more visual when it comes to attraction where as women are more intimate. For a man to be aroused it might be caused by looking at a woman lustfully, either because she was in a bikini, or dressed in such a way that is sex appealing. In the case of women, they get aroused more by the intimacy, the environment, and though it may vary by the physical aspects of the moment. How does all of this fit into the masturbation scene? Simple, like it was already mentioned men are highly visual, so when they see a woman and they lust after her they store the image in their memory. Afterwards a man may recall that memory to use it to masturbate.
There are several Bible passages that refer to lust[2]:
"You will have these tassels to look at and so you will remember all the commands of the LORD, that you may obey them and not prostitute yourselves by going after the lusts of your own hearts and eyes. Numbers 15:39"
"I made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a girl. Job 31:1"
"Do not lust in your heart after her beauty or let her captivate you with her eyes? Proverbs 6:25"
Why is lust so important and relevant to the issue of sodomy? Lust and Paraphilia are interrelated to each other. First let?s define lust: intense sexual desire or appetite; uncontrolled or illicit sexual desire or appetite, now paraphilia is family or persistent, intense fantasies, urges, or behaviors involving sexual arousal to nonhuman objects, pain or humiliation experienced by one's self or partner, or children, or other nonconsensual individuals, they may interfere with the capacity for reciprocal affectionate sexual activity.
Paraphilia are described in sexology and psychology, and the most common clinically recognized paraphilia are:
1.Exhibitionism- the recurrent urge or behavior to expose one's genitals to an unsuspecting person.
2.Fetishism- the use of non-sexual or nonliving objects or part of a person's body to gain sexual excitement. Partialism refers to fetishes specifically involving nonsexual parts of the body.
3 Frotteurism-the recurrent urges or behavior of touching or rubbing against a non-consenting person.
4. Pedophilia- the sexual attraction to prepubescent or peripubescent children.
5. Sexual Masochism- the recurrent urge or behavior of wanting to be humiliated, beaten, bound, or otherwise made to suffer.
6. Sexual Sadism- the recurrent urge or behavior involving acts in which the pain or humiliation of the victim is sexually exciting.
7.Transvestic fetishism- a sexual attraction towards the clothing of the opposite gender.
8. Voyeurism- the recurrent urge or behavior to observe an unsuspecting person who is naked, disrobing or engaging in sexual activities, or may not be sexual in nature at all.
[3]Other recognized but rarer paraphilia are telephone scatalogia (obscene phone calls), necrophilia (corpses), partialism (exclusive focus on one part of the body), zoophilia (animals), coprophilia (feces), klismaphilia (enemas), urophilia (urine), and emetophilia (vomit)[4].
To further explain this, nudism, the use of sex toys, physical sexual harassment of a non consenting person, adult having sex with small children, violent sexual acts, and being a peeping tom are all signs and behaviors that they are suffering from some aspect of a paraphilia.
Frottage is sexual activity without vaginal, anal, and possibly oral penetration as opposed to intercourse, whether clothed or unclothed. In other words Frottage, also known as outer-course, is all types of non vaginal penetrations, but although it can be used as foreplay, it is not to be confused with foreplay.
Sexual acts that are considered to be frottage are:
1.Axillary intercourse, where a man rubs his penis in another person's armpit, also known as bag piping.
2.Fingering, stimulating vagina or anus with the hand.
3. Frot, penile-penile rubbing between two males.
4.Handjob, stimulating male genitals with the hand.
5.Foot job, stimulating male genitals with the feet.
6.Intercrural sex, also known as interfemoral intercourse, where a man places his penis between the partner's thighs.
7.Mammary intercourse, when a man rubs his penis between a woman's breasts.
8. Mutual masturbation, a sexual act where two or more people stimulate themselves or one another sexually, usually with the hands.
9. Nipple Sucking, oral stimulation of the male or female nipples.
10.Oral sex, using the mouth on another's genitals, though some definitions exclude oral sex as a form of outer course due to disease risk.
11.Sumata, type of stimulation of male genitals popular in Japanese brothels.
12.Tribadism, vulval-vulval rubbing between two females, also known as "scissoring".
13.Virtual sex, mutual masturbation at a distance with the aid of technology. Phone sex also should be included as being virtual sex.
Frottage also includes lap dances and "grinding" (perreo). This is so because the object of the dance is to incite sexual pleasure to the man. Grinding' sole purpose in any way that it is danced is for the male partner to be sexually aroused, and one should note that in many occasions couples have intercourse while they grin
Anal penetration, the insertion of the erect penis into the rectum, is the last and the most directly talked about aspect of Sodomy. Leviticus 18:22 "Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable." Also in Romans 1:26-27"Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion."
In conclusion, the term sodomy is not restricted only to homosexual form of sexual acts and desires, and has been misinterpreted by many Christians and Non Christians. Sodomy is then the classification and the word God used to make it clear to His people that he did not want them in any way committing any of those acts specifically anal sex. The reasons being are that, for example, oral sex exposes you to many more sexually transmitted diseases and anal sex is double the chances because of hygiene issues. Also sexual activity before marriage complicates any relationship and will have its consequences.

[2] We have to understand that God created sex, and that he understands our impulses perfectly but it is our job to learn how to control our bodies.
[3] Note, homosexuality used to be considered a paraphilia and for all purposes of the study of Sodomy it is considered as one.
