Art
Instructor:  Renee Bliss
Grade Level: 8th - 12th
Description: The objective of the art class is not only to create art, but also to learn something about art history through the major art movements and the techniques of those artists that shaped them. We will study the disciplines and techniques that the artists created or became known for. The students will learn the elements of design, which include: drawing, color theory, tone values, and perspective just to name a few. Much of this is taught using various resources, such as "Drawing from the Right Side of the Brain," and materials from the "Washington School of Art" as well as others. This class is designed not only to give the students hands on experience and a bit of art history, but also help see that the visual arts can have a powerful impact on those who pause long enough to see what the artist is saying through his or her work. This in turn will encourage the student to create art that is reflective of his or her creative talent.
