Moon Superstitions

The moon was associated in days past with an influence on the growth of Hair and Nails. From this stems the superstition that it is best to have your hair cut while the moon is waxing, so that it grows strong and healthy. The same applies to the cutting of nails.
It is believed that, it is wrong to point at the moon as it brings about hard times
Some Country folk still hold firm to the belief that it is best to sow seeds while the moon is on the increase.
It is considered by some to be unlucky for a child to be born when the moon is waning.
Some people used to believe that it was dangerous to sleep in the moonlight or to face the moon whilst sleeping; for it led to blindness or being "moonstruck", a mild form of madness.
Washing your hands in moonlight was thought by some to be a cure for warts.
It is thought to be unlucky to see a new moon for the first time through a window.
A wish made while looking up at a new moon is said to come true before the end of the year.
