I'm a poet too! _________________________ Now For The Real Victim Tips: 1) Learn all about Perps. Learn what the warning signs are that show you a guy is a Perp before you get into anything too deep with him. Same goes for guy victims and lady Perps (that are more rare). 2) Learn about what Perps, like stalkers, normally do to their victims if you think you're being stalked. 3) Don't try to hide from the problem. It won't go away. 4) Learn about self-defense and what kinds of defense will work for you. 5) Learn everything you can about the self-defense methods you choose and practice a lot so you'll be ready when you need to use it. 6) Don't let the Perp take your weapon away from you. If you chose a gun make sure you could really use it to kill him if you had to do it in self-defense. You'd be surprised at how many victims freeze at the crucial moment. 7) Keep weapons away from kids. 8) Never walk or drive anyplace where you're alone and susceptible. 9) Think of your situation like the Perp might when you go about your daily routine. When are you wide open for attack and when are you safe? 10) Always carry a charged up cell phone. 11) Invest in an electronic home security system (like ADT or something). 12) Practive escape routines mentally or physically away from every situation you normally encounter. 13) Always watch everything around you to make sure the Perp isn't waiting to trap you. 14) Don't ignore your feelings of being in danger even if you don't see why you feel this way immediately. 15) Don't enter your house if you suspect someone uninvited is in there. 16) Tell your family, friends, and others at your workplace. 17) Notify your neighbors whenever possible. 18) Learn how to collect evidence about sightings of the Perp. 19) Carry a camera with you at all times. A disposable camera is good. Take pictures of the Perp is you see that he's watching you or following you. Be ready to escape him if he becomes enraged. Try to be as discrete as he is. Become as unpredictable as possible. 28) Alert your kid's school about the Perp. 29) Keep a copy of your Restraining order with you at all times. 30) Don't think the Restraining order will keep the Perp away from you. 31) Make sure all doors and windows are closed and locked when unattended. 32) Change locks if you think your Perp is getting in. 33) Keep your cars in a locked garage. 34) Hire a PI if at all possible. Do this when the Perp is very active. 35) Place emergency numbers on your phone's speed dial. 36) Document every phone call you get from the Perp. Keep and duplicate every letter you get from the Perp. Keep copies away from your home. 37) Don't let your kids play unsupervised. Not even in your own yard. 38) Watch your pets and other property. 39) Know when things at your place are missing or moved around. 40) Get professional help from a counselor. You are probably going to get depressed and anxious. 41) Get in touch with a good attorney. You may never need an attorney, but you should have an idea of who you might call if you did need one. 42) Call the police and report every incident but don't expect that they will catch the Perp quickly. 43) You will be in charge of your own survival. 44) Don't underestimate what the Perp is capable of doing. 45) Remember that you have to change your life to make yourself a poor or impossible target.
