In loving memory of Scantihose. |
Scantihose were created in the early 90's by a Lincolnshire man and were designed
as a substitute for tights (aka pantyhose) with the idea of giving women the convenience
of tights but keeping the allure of stockings. One of their selling
points was that a woman could wear them with a mini skirt without showing white
thighs above stocking tops or those nasty top bits of tights. They worked on the
principle of attaching to a scanti-belt or scanti-brief by a single hook on
the outside of the thigh. (see images below) Sadly, despite worldwide marketing they did not achieve success. My guess is that they were unable to fight off the big manufacturers. Stockings purists derided them and it was politically incorrect for a woman to want to look good for her man. Whatever the cause, I thought they looked attractive and my wife thought they were practical. They had the additional advantage of coming in 4 sizes (instead of one size fits some,) they were hard wearing and came in a wide variety of colours and styles. It's a shame they vanished, though I hear that Pretty Polly has come out with a stocking that attaches to a brief, I can't help wondering if they'll succeed where scantihose didn't. Pretty Polly already has the advantage of a big name and a big worldwide sales base. Personally I think that Scantihose looked quite a bit better. If the Scantihose people ever see this site I hope they'll be encouraged to hear that some people thought they had a great product. Hopefully they won't get upset that I've published the photos below that came off their packaging and are probably their copyright. For info, you can sometimes find scantihose and scantibelts for sale on e-bay. If you happen to be a Scantihose fan and have more information about them, or maybe some photos of a lady wearing them, please drop me an e-mail. |
