Stinger Rig for Doughballs
The dough Stinger Rig is what I use at the Conowingo and will work well on any hydroelectric dam or where a strong current is present. Rigs are lost often if you leave your bait sit too long on the bottom because of the shifting nature of gravel and the gouged out bottom structure. The rig is simple. Distally I use a Lazersharp #2 or #4 Baitholder which is large enough to secure the doughball. Snelled immediately above that hair rig style is a #6 Lazersharp. In other words the smaller top hook is left exposed and is not covered with dough. Hook length is 6-8 inches of mono or braid. Both work fine. I prefer braid for the small snelled knots and the more natural presentation, but mono is more tangle free and the stiff effect can be helpful. An egg sinker swivel and shock bead completes the simple rig. Use a good knot like the grinner or palomar. Egg sinkers snag less frequently below these dams. An egg sinker flattened a bit in a vice is helpful if you have a problem with rolling along the bottom. The dough rig is particularly helpful on any water. It is superior than jacks or pieces of noodles or springs. What hooks better than a hook?. Fish are caught on top and bottom hooks almost equally.
