Conrad HIRES enlisted in Captain Cornelius NIEUKIRK's Company of Foot Militia, Second Regiment, Salem County Militia. A certificate issued to the copiler of this genealogy on December 16, 1943, certifies that the records of the Office of the Adjutant General of the state of New Jersey show that Conrad HIRES was " . . . . in active service under the command of Colonel Joseph ELLIS at Haddonfield, from February 7 to March 9, 1778 - during the Revolutionary War."

Conrad HIRES was buried in the yard of the Friesburg Lutheran Church, but his grave is unmarked. A translation of the original church record in German follows: "The following persons were given Christian burial by me, Christian BERGMANN, the then schoolmaster . . . 19) Conrad HOYER, born in Germany 1744; died 30 May; Buried 31 May 1782."
    - End of information from the above referenced book -

The same information appears slightly differently in the book Early Church Records of Salem County, New Jersey, Friesburg Emanual Lutheran Church Records - The following persons were buried by me, Christian BREYMANN, the temporary local schoolmaster: Conrad HOYER was b. 1744 in Germany, d. May 30 and was buried May 31, 1782.

Here is the death notice for Christina RAMMEL taken from a Salem Co., NJ newspaper dated May 14, 1841:
DIED Recently in Pittsgrove, Salem Co., Christina RAMMEL, aged nearly 90 years. We are indebted to a friend in the above township for the following notice of the deceased. She was of German origin, of pious and industrious habits, and for a long time has been a member of the Lutheran Church. The deceased has probably left more descendents than any other person in West Jersey; She has been twice married and had 17 children, 11 of whom are now living - thirteen were married and five died young - 110 grand children and 500 great grand children. Her first husband's name was Conrad HIRE and her second Simon RAMMEL. She has been a widow 30 years.
