A la Carte:
|
I received my full registration from the Victoria Board of Education and started teaching again at the end of March 06.
I took a job which started second quarter at a private all boys' school. It has been a huge challenge both because of the behavior of the boys and because
of the
way the school is "organized". But I have stuck it out and even returned this year to teach years 7 and 8.
It is part-time and that is the big draw for me at the moment.
The boys are quite funny sometimes but I will continue to look for another position somewhere for next year. I have also been kicking around the idea of a career
change although I do love teaching...
I enjoy my colleagues and our department is good. It's just the school itself that is tough.
On top of that teachers here generally do not get their own classroom and they scramble from room to room with all of their
supplies. This is a hugely inefficient use of energy in my opinion.
There is something to be said for the American system where teachers generally do have their own room.
I'm beginning to think that my years at Singapore American School were my "Glory Days."
February 16 and 17 I will attend a workshop on AIM (Accelerated Integration Method) which uses gestures, songs and storytelling to teach foreign language.
It's worth checking out to see if I can use it with my boys.
