This page is an important space for both you and me to
share important news, updates, and guidelines. Below, you'll find
information and guidelines that will help you have a successful and productive
learning experience this year. An important aspect of 5th grade is taking
responsibility for your learning, assignments, and success- and enjoying the
journey along the way. There will be many
opportunities to share what you know!
Participation-
15%
Thoughtful
questions during class, listening to others’ ideas, contributing your own,
important ideas so that we all can learn from each other
Homework-
15%
Can you imagine a
person working really hard on an assignment and not taking credit for it? It is
unfathomable to me (I like that word). If I receive homework with
no name, it will go towards the grade of the "unknown genius"...and
not you.
Paper Unit Tests 25%
Using
your journals, study guides and partners throughout the unit, you’ll be
prepared for these tests. Asking questions, and coming in during lunch or
recess (if you have concerns) are all great ways to make sure you will be able
to show what you know on these tests!
Portfolio
20%
Your
portfolio will be a place where you can show your continued growth,
improvement, unique style and pride in your accomplishments. It will
become a showcase of your brilliance, and give you, your parents and me a good
indication of your growth in all areas of 5th grade.
Quizzes
10%
More often than tests, we will have quizzes in all
subject areas. Quizzes are very helpful to both you and me in giving us
an idea of what we have learned and how we can improve. They will be
available to you to use for study guides before the unit tests, too.
Authentic
Assessments 15%
There will be many opportunities
to show what you have learned through oral presentations, labs and other
testing situations in which you will be DOING or PERFORMING your knowledge
instead of answering questions on a test. This is another excellent way
for me to evaluate what you have learned.
