Community Helpers
Day 1:  Introduction of community
We learn that a community is a place where people gather.  We discuss our community and create a semantic map.  Students find people, places and things they might see in a community.
Students match the name to the picture.  Students place the items the community helper uses next to them.

Mrs. Smith is a great baker.  She read a recipe, talked to us about ingredients and made homeade blueberry muffins.  They were yummy!
We read about a doctor's job and turned our kitchen into a doctor's office.  Students checked our babies temperatures and heart rate and wrote out prescriptions.
During center time, students had a chance to be a fashion designer!
After reading about mail carriers, we drew a picture of a mail truck, addressed the envelope, placed a stamp on it and mailed it to our house.

Nurses came and shared about their job.  They also read us a story!
Mrs. Barwell wrote a personal narrative about herself when she was a young girl.  We also learned about the types of duties principals have.
A telephone installer also visitied us.  He told us about his job and we got to see him climb a telephone pole!
We read and researched about photographers.  We took our own photos with a digital camera!
Classroom
We read about being a dentist and painted yellow teeth white using toothbrushes!

A police officer visited us and talked to us about staying safe.  We also learned the various things police officers do while on duty.
