Title: I Missed Class Because of This                                                                                                                                     Author: Cynthia Beckner

======================

Blair came running into the hospital in a panicked state. He had gotten a call from the hospital to say that Jim had been injured while chasing a suspect and had been taking to the emergency room. As he raced across town, all Blair could do was imagine what had happened. He wondered if he would arrive there only to find out that Jim was dead. He had tired to call Simon to find out what had happened, but the captain wasn’t at the station or answering his cell phone.

Pulling up at the hospital, Blair wasn’t so far gone that he left his car in the no parking zone to get towed away like Jim had several times. Racing up to the desk at the emergency room, Blair asked about any information about Jim Ellison.

“Oh the policeman that had been hit by a bullet. He’s still in with the doctor, but as soon as there is any information I’ll have someone get you,” the lady commented as she continued to work on painting her nails.

If Blair hadn’t been in a panic by then, he would be now. ‘Hit by a bullet.” Blair continued to play that over and over in his mind. He just knew Jim was dead, he just knew it. As he paced back and forth, Blair reamed himself for not being at Jim’s side. He wondered if Jim had zoned and that was why he had gotten hit.

“Who’s here for Jim Ellison?” Someone called.

“I am. How is he?” Blair asked frantically.

“Physical he’ll be fine, but I have a feeling that his pride won’t heal so easily.” The doctor said.

Blair scrunched up his forehead as the doctor snickered as he said that and wondered what was so funny about the situation. The doctor seemed to notice that I asked if Blair knew what had happened to Jim. When Blair answered, the doctor could only laugh.

 “I’m afraid that the statement of him being ‘hit by a bullet’ was a little misleading. See a bullet that the criminal threw at Detective Ellison, hit him. It would seem that the criminal forgot to bring a gun with him, but didn’t forget the ammunition. When the Detective when to chase after the suspect, he tripped over the bullet that had been thrown at him. Personally I think it pretty funny. We don’t see many cases that we can laugh at around here.” The doctor told Blair what room that he could find Jim and went back to work.

 Blair walked into Jim’s room and glared at the people there. Jim was sitting on the exam table still and Simon, Megan, Rafe, Henry, and Joel were standing around talking. “I missed an important class because you tripped over a bullet,” Blair stated. Shaking his head once he turned around and walked out the room. He was able to make it to his car and halfway back to the university before he started laughing.

 Back at the hospital the other were laughing at the look on Jim’s face when Blair said that. Simon then said, “Jim you do know that you’re never going to live this one down right.” The others just broke out laughing again.
