Christmas?

Tomorrow is Christmas

is it really here?

There's snow on the ground

and holly everywhere

and just last night children

came caroling at my door

Oh, why doesn't Christmas

feel like Christmas anymore?

*

Everywhere stores

sell "Christmas cheer"

with "just the right gift"

for friend and peer

Many St. Nicks

all bearded and belly-ed

ring bells and yell

luring the money-ed

*

I always thought Christmas

was a time of rejoicing

praising the birth

of our saviour, our King

but now it seems more

of a time for possession

people count gifts

with wild obsession

*

Oh where is the warmth

once felt in December

It's gone. The true reason

no longer remains

It seems no one cares

why Christmas is here

The tinsel and lights

seem to blank out His name
