Marinna at 4 weeks old
October 10, 2006

We got some bad news about Marinna last week. She is going to need major surgery for her back very soon. We were always told that she wasn't eligible for the surgery because they weren't sure she would make it through it but right now we don't have a choice. Her curve in her spine has went from a 37 degree curve in January to a 57 degree curve now and it's already compressing one of her lungs because of where the curvature is. This is major surgery for a healthy person and we are probably looking at a good 3-4 weeks in PICU.

It is imperative that we get Marinna's addition done before she comes home from the hospital. She has to have a handicap accessible bedroom and bathroom and the track lift in place so that we can safely lift and move her. With Marinna's bones already being brittle, it's even more necessary now. We are in the process of collecting donations of materials and labor to get this done for her. We will also need volunteers to help put it up and finish it when that day comes. We are already in the process of getting the permits.

If you can help or know of anyone that can help with donations and/or labor it would be a huge blessing. We need to get this done for her as soon as possible. The rest of this month is going to be spent getting her cleared for surgery from her other speciailsts and then we see the spine specialist on October 25th to schedule the surgery. I am hoping to have the surgery done early November so that there is a better chance of her being home in time for Christmas.

If you can help or know of anyone you can reach me at [email protected]

We are getting response to help with Marinna's addition. God has just been amazing as well as everyone that has come together to help Marinna. The architect is working on the plans and as soon as that is done we will be able to get the building permit and break ground. We still need a plumber, materials and a few other things I can't think of right now. I can't thank everyone enough for how much they are pitching in to help.

Surgery has been scheduled for Nov 14th. Jim, Stephanie (nurse) and I are going to give blood before her surgery. We were told we had to do that which is fine because we will do whatever she needs!

Marinna has been cleared by all her other Dr's for surgery so we are all set. Now it's just a matter of waiting for the day to get here and lots of continued prayers.

I set up a CaringBridge site for Marinna last night. It's easier for me to update frequently then it is to update the website to keep everyone posted. It should be very easy for me to update at the hospital so you can see how she is doing if you are interested. Of course it's decorated with balloons - Marinna's favorite! The URL is
www.caringbridge.org/visit/Marinna. You should be able to just click on that and go there if you are interested. I am going to try and get Marinna's whole story on there soon but that will take a lot of energy mentally to review all of that so be patient and check back often to see if I have finished it yet LOL
