Hi my name is Cynthia I was born May 1952 in a small town in Riverside county called Parris. I was 9 pounds and 10 ounces at birth. Ouch! I think mom ate too much. Now I have to watch what I eat to get my figure back.

Here I am in Alaska. My father was in the Air Force and his boss sent him to sent Anchorage. My father and mother built the house behind all of us. Mom, dad slept downstairs, and us kids slept upstairs. This picture dated between 1956-1957.

The year is 1962 I am 12-years-old, all nose, teeth, hair and feet. When a salesman at Kenney's Shoes store saw my number 9 size feet he called his associate over (from across the store) to look at the size my feet. I burst into tears when that happened along with an additional comment that I consider wearing boys shoes. Mom gave him a tongue lashing which probably hurts him to this day. In 1964 my grandmother made me a shift (dress) that I loved to wear  I wore it to Disneyland.

These glasses were fashionable in the 60's.  I went to Vandenberg Junior High school --- yes it is near  the missile base.  During outdoor assemblies we often watch the missiles flying up into the sky. Picture of school and assembly area. 1965-1966

Now I am living in Ventura and going to Cabrillo Junior High. I loved living in Ventura just three houses from the beach. The year 1966, my brother and sister are gone Al and I are the oldest now life was good we get along.

It is hard to make friends when you move almost every year. Lots of memories lost and never experienced because we didn't get to grow up with our friends and cousins. Here's why:

1958-1963 Ulatis Elementary Moved 4 times.

1963-1965 Carmichael Elementary, Barrett Middle School, Churchill Middle School we moved 2 times.

1965-1967 Vandenberg Middle School, Cabrillo Middle School we moved 2 times.

1967-1970 Kearny Sr. High family moved several times in after 1970. I graduated in 1970 but I too continued to move.

1970-1996 I moved 10-11 times.

1996-2001 Moved 6 times.

2001-Present I am never moving again!  Have wonderful friends here in Colorado!

My sister Karien said I had a ski jump nose and a big butt. That hurt, when I looked into the mirror I always thought I was ugly.

cyn10thgrade.jpg (7831 bytes) Here I am after a haircut. A caring friend showed me how to hide my ears with my hair. I put on some weight and my face filled out including my nose.

My brother Alfred graduated from high school in 1969. It was a good year. Now there were only three children at home which meant more of everything! Christmas 1970 was great lots of presents. My younger brother and sister fought with each other on and off. That was irritating. They hated doing chores so I became the heavy. Of all the things we talked about growing up my sister Wendy remembers me saying this: You can always tell how clean a person is looking at the outside/bottom area of their toilet clean means clean person, dirty means dirty person.

(52059 bytes)   This is the only picture of me in our year book. Lot's of us didn't have our pictures taken because the studio was downtown and closed before our parents got off from work. Graphic Arts teacher, Mr. Paschall stood on the roof of our school and took several pictures of the class of 1970. Front and back sides, the backside picture did not make it into the year book. Pity that would have been very creative.

(1834812 bytes)1971 Wendy (sister) and I are out to get husbands the old fashion way. When that failed, I tried looking for guy that no one else wanted. At the time, he did not have a job, not important, does he have a drinking problem? Yes but he will straighten out once we are married, does he  spend money and hang with his friends all the time? Yes, but that is not important because love is all that matters. What a bunch of shit!  I used no judgment in selecting a husband the first time and second time I married.

jamesthorpe.jpg (24450 bytes) My first husband was a fall down drunk. He got a job at a bread factory and only drank after work. He believe drinking was the only way he could have fun with friends and his wife. That hurt. He was the bread winner and I was supposed to be the baby maker.  I left him twice hoping that he would straighten out. The second time was an eye opener he said he was going to get me pregnant so I would not leave again. That was really stupid, I saw the power men have over women through there children and decided to think for a change. I did not have children I left him after a year of marriage.

I had a hard time finding work right after school because I was unskilled and clueless as to the world around me. Before I married Jim I got a job as an receptionist. I was hired and fired all in one week. Hourly wage in 1970 $1.60. My boss wanted to take me on business trips and have me entertain his clients. To his proposal  I said no thank you. Then I got a job in housekeeping at Casa Blanca Convalescent Center in Linda Vista. It was horrible cleaning up after people who were present in body only. Plus working in that environment made me think of death all the time. The smell of death and decaying bodies hung in the air the smell stuck to everyone. Then I met Brenda and she unknowingly delivered me from hell. Brenda1973.jpg (32412 bytes)

Brenda quit Casa Blanca and went to work at a factory called Diacon which was next to 39 TV.  I quit a year later then  I looked  Brenda up she was overjoyed to see me. Brenda was responsible for getting me hired at Diacon in the quality control department. After that my life changed drastically I was now making $1.65 an hour.
