Dossier[Out of character knowledge]

Personal Information:

Code Name: "Line Drive"

Public ID: Bobbie Joe Simmons

Player: Phaedra Whitlock

Group(s) Affiliations: Amber City Miners (minor league baseball team) of Styler Stadium somewhere in Florida

Concept/Occupation: 3rd Baseman of the Amber City miners, mooch

Physical Description:

Age: 30s?
Sex: Male
Height/Weight: 6'2"/a little Paunchy
Skin/Hair: Sun weathered/dishwater blonde
Distinguishing Features: Blue eyes in a lined face starting to go to seed. Guileless and honest looking.
Appearance (Public ID): Standard baseball uniform and glove in good repair, with worn baseball hat. When off the field Bobbie likes to dress casual, jeans and a jacket with his ever present hat in muted, well washed shades of green and red and blue, generally without logos except on the hat, and a Miners logo on the jacket. NOT a slob.

Outward Attitude: Confident and genial, sometimes even profound. He has charm and when he chooses, a majestic presence and stance like that of a Keven Costner Field of Dreams, or classic baseball hero. He can recite the Pledge of Allegience by heart and give it meaning, or the national anthem (although his singing voice is more heart than beauty). Causes no ripples, makes no waves. Extremely laid back and zen, nothing stirs him except a direct threat to his beer or his life. Unreliable tho, if patriotism is not involved (baseball, hotdogs, apple pie.... its all part of patriotism).

Ambitions/Goals: To stay employed doing what he loves, baseball. He sees it as his civic duty to be a good rolemodel on public. He has already been in the Majors and sees nothing wrong with what he does now.
Routine Activities: Dodging his ex-wife's lawyers, frequenting bars, speaking at PR events such as mall openings, rotary picnics and such when requested. Also grade schools. And of course, baseball.
Friends/Family: Parents passed away several years ago, also a sister passed away. Friends on the team particularly Slugger... well, casual friends anyway. They are handy to hang out with and buy drinks, also reporters know he's good for a quote and will buy him drinks.
Enemies (and why): Mysterious thugs sent by "Sandpiper" in hawaiian shirts and black shorts lately have been taking shots at the team members, probably because of the boss being in trouble with a local mob boss for something.
Physical Problems: Dependence on beer. Beer fuels his world and makes him the laidback popular guy he is.
Psychological Quirks & Problems: Needs beer. Seriously, he needs beer regularly even to the extent of smuggling a flask onto the field during a long inning. Habitual liar and womanizer with the inability to take responsibility. A mooch.

Financial Status: Poor, $600 on him and not much in the bank. No liquid assets really. Lives in an apartment.

Languages: English (native)

Disadvantages: Hunted by ex-wife's divorce lawyers and Sandpiper's thugs, Watched by Coach Harris who thinks he's hiding something and may be a mutant, or smuggling beer. The team recently underwent a scandal when it was found that several players are in fact mutants and so competing unfairly. Bobbie also has a problem with betting, although never on his own games.

Reputation: 8- Extreme. If you know him at all, he made an impression.

Origin/History:

Born January 28, 197x. Unlike the tortured histories of many heroes and villains Bobbie Joe has had a nice fulfilling life, coasting, steadily exerting as little effort as possible.

His parents and sister died soon after he departed for college on a baseball scholarship, of a sudden illness. After college, majoring in art (easy to pass) he was in the minors and went up to the major leagues for a few seasons even, before the team was sold and he ended up in the Miners.

Along the way, Bobbie collected a few ex-wives and although he holds nothing against them he'd rather avoid them like the plague, and their lawyers. Luckily none of the marriages lasted long enough to produce children. Cause of divorce cited most frequently was 'irreconcilable differences' (They expected him to settle down and do house work) or his fooling around on the side. No excuses here, but they should've known. He was usually sleeping with them when the current wife found out and divorced him.

Recently a scandal erupted when it was found that several team members were actually mutants and unfairly using their abilities (how does one not use your strength if a brick?) to win games. Bobbie Joe was not implicated but the others were suspended along with an Umpire.

Still, they had money and Bobbie accompanied Slugger to a bar to meet Sweet for a drink, where they were confronted by thugs in bad hawaiian shirts and baggy black shorts. The trio went on to a shopping mall where they were doing an appearance, and the thugs attempted to injure Sweet and intimidate us but we handled that.

Similarly dressed men appeared the next day in the stands during practice, but thanks to Terri, our bat girl, we were saved before they had a chance. Impressed and not a little afraid of her now, Bobbie learned that Terri was searching for her parents having been given up at birth for adoption. Bobbie's sad story of how he was in fact her father moved her to tears. Although the romance had ended too soon he had never forgotten her mother he said, he even had her picture in his wallet and proceeded to show her one he'd scavenged from some of Sweet's discarded fan mail. The 'reunited' father and daughter hugged and had a crying moment. Bobbie hit her up for beer money within minutes and found that Terri had some pretty hefty savings to her name. Sandpiper's thugs confronted them in the dugout by surprise, Chuck, Terri and Bobbie in a row having already moved their full were about to be shot. Bobbie grabbed his chest and made like a heart attack, collapsing to the floor and kicking faintly thus clearing the way for the thugs to shoot Terri and Chuck instead. Which they did, or tried. Terri simply didnt get hit while Chuck turned into swiss cheese. The rest of the team heard the shots and ran to the rescue... Bobbie survived unscathed again! And more importantly still without revealing his powers.

Soon the team, Terri, Sandy and the Ump were on the road zooming down the highway in their team bus when a convertible zoomed in and out of traffic catching their eye. It was Sandpiper's goons again, this time carrying a machine gun.

Slugger began throwing things out the window and made the mistake of throwing open the safety door in the rear and then grabbing a can of beer to throw at them. Bobbie snatched the beer out of his hand at the last second and drank it for safe keeping, leaving Slugger to throw empty air. The team took out a few in the car when suddenly the bus went over the edge sailing through midair... And there we stopped. Will they survive? WHO will survive?

Significant Accomplishments:

The heart attack ploy actually succeeded, and his powers never did get found out. Im also pretty proud of his use of Tracking. That and I think he was the only one of us who bought both KS or PS baseball, so knew how to play. For a 100 pt character I was impressed, although moreso by "Batgirl"'s martial artist prowess. Ouch!

  • LineDrive is a creation of Phaedra Whitlock. Hero Games and anyr characters found in Hero Games supplements (subsequently used in adventures by my GMs), are products of Hero Games, which like me retains all copyrights and trademarks to their creations, as do my friends, the creators of the characters serving as Bobbie's' teammates. Amber City and the Miners are the creation of Kim D. Davis to my knowledge, the GM who ran the Amber City Miners plotline.

Note, any photos are NOT of the player, only an idea of the character's possible appearance.
