Prelude He began as a slave in Padua to an alchemist long forgotten. The bottles and potions and flames drew him and he studied the things he had seen hungrily, experimenting late at night when he was supposedly sleeping, or when the master slept in the afternoons. Years passed and he grew strong from carting heavy ores and equipment for his master. The old man grew ill and recovered from near death, but was never really able to do much afterward. And so he studied him now, as the man lapsed towards what would be final death. Another observed the one observing, and watched. And when the experiment was complete, took the slave with her on her long journey. |
History Balasi's life since encountering Besebba Ty has been a quest for knowledge and understanding. Life, Death. He believes in the power of omens to guide him to understanding. A flight of birds at a certain juncture. A cloud covering the moon. A newspaper open to a certain story or word. Entrails. But above all, the Blood guides him. The pattern of blood from the dying, the Rorschach paths of it against his skin and walls. Sometimes he kills someone and sees nothing. Sometimes he gains a bit of insight. Epiphany. The Rightness of it is akin to God, to him. Balasi has travelled all his life from city to city. The Sabbat take him in, or Anarchs, and he travels with them for a time indulging his quest. Sometimes they make demands. He follows through but always it returns to the Quest. The people, the Kindred, all are immaterial. As with all Malkavians he sees no difference between the Clans. When asked what Clan he is he picks one at Random, or they assume one from watching him. Generally they believe him to be Toreador due to his artistic methods of corpse disposal and reaction to the dying. |

Balasi's room Through the open entrance and turns a corner to a small hallway with twin doors labeled "Restricted Area" in blood red letters on a striped diagonal yellow and black background. Chamberlain pushes the door open and after turning another corner he leads Cai down a dark, spiraling staircase with steps far steeper individually than they should be. After a swift descent of about thirty five feet, they reach a dirt landing. Chamberlain steps aside for Balasi to reach it as well. The appearance of the area is tight and confined. It seems a mixture of sewers without the stench and debris, ancient temple without the mysterious heiroglyphics and underground missile silo without any trace technology. Two tunnels split off and Chamberlain leads him down one. Chamberlain leads him deeper down the tunnel and it quickly becomes a sort of confined maze. Chamberlain is quite persistent in assuring that Cai remember just where to turn and what paths not to take. He takes additional effort in pointing out several spots not to step and pointing to specific stones that need to be pushed before traversing certain areas. In all, with Chamberlain's very careful, possible irritating reminders the trip to the actual haven area takes at least a full hour. When Cai gets used to to the process, however, it will most likely take no longer than seven or eight minutes. Cai marks each intersection taken or not taken, in grease pencil with a scribble that means nothing to anyone but him. They finally reach a large, open area. There are three hard steel doors to each side, set into the stone with keyholes. There is a single large wooden door directly in front of them. There are visible keyholes above the handles. Motions to the first pair of steel doors, opposite of each other. Those two rooms are yours. You may furnish them as you like, or as you request. The other four doors are for visitors or new additions to the pack with tastes similiar to yours. The wooden one leads to an area where the creation rites can be done in safety. A completely barren twelve by fourteen foot room, completely unfurnished. The door handle is hooked up to 1000 volts.
