From: "Webber, Jessica" To: "'tunare@onelist.com'" Date: 9/9/99 10:19AM Subject: [Tunare] What a night! From: "Webber, Jessica" Right! Well, when I last camped I had fallen through a trap door in my guild and landed in a pool of sharks. Learning the hard way is all. [grins sheepishly] Having found a map of Qeynos's sewers I FINALLY got out. [ooc, but not without zoning - literally - nine times. Grrr. Every time I tried to swim out the inky access well I kept sinking and rezoning back into the sewers. But that's not what I'm on about now. I just had a great night!] OK, so I'm planning on attending this party in Kithicore on Saturday and I wanted to be able to bring something of some value. Not that I'm the generous type - far from it, but image matters and I don't want to appear a beggar amongst nobles. So, weighing my odds of getting a froglok all to myself vs obtaining quality wolf pelts, I head for the hills. As an outcast of the fifth rank, I have only a slight upper hand on gray wolves, giant rats, fire beetles, and gnoll scouts. I fought all of these - wolves and gnolls on site, rats and beetles if the mood struck me. My great luck obtaining quality pelts must have been due to my buying my first blunt weapon. [laughs] No more slashes or holes through the pelts! I obtained two low quality and one medium in no time. Fighting with my new rusty mace was difficult, I'll admit. I'm just not used to wielding this thing. At one point a gnoll scout had me in a tough spot. Out of nowhere an angel appeared. Well alright, not an angel, but he was an angel to me. He began casting. I felt better and better. I felt stronger. I felt my skin toughen. I smashed that gnoll's head in and turned to see who it was that had just bestowed far more gifts upon me than I would have ever asked for. Aboxorox. Hmm, I know this name. I pull out my list of "People who's purses I ought to stay out of" and his name is on it. I silently wonder if he remembers me as I offer to give him something in return. (I had fully intended to give him the medium quality pelt) I start to rummage through my backpack for the pelt, but he stops me. "Helping people is it's own reward," he says. Well, truth be told, I almost laughed in his face but stifled it before the chuckle became audible. [You're manners have improved (1)] Then I ask him what class he was that he would feel such agape. "Ranger," he replied. "You've improved my opinion of rangers then," I said as I hastily closed my backpack full of wolf pelts. "What class are you?" Aboxorox asked, noting how well I hide my profession behind a purple name. [sigh] Honesty is not a skill I practice often, but I tell you, I was under a bubble when he started healing me. Then he buffed me. Since he would accept no material payment I thought he at least deserved the truth. "I hate to say it," I began, "but I am a rogue and hunter of wolves." He looked at me for a moment with the most excellent poker face I've ever seen. (Truly this man has missed his calling! I'll have to put in a good word for him at Crow's.) Unable to gauge his reaction I added, "It's not my fault! The wolves keep giving me threatening looks!" Aboxorox laughed, then advised me to keep away from Holly. I thanked him once more and headed off. His buffs were fantastic. I was fighting with this rusty and still unfamilar mace like some kind of knight. Ah, what a blissful false sense of security that is! [laughs] So I chase down this gnoll scout. I've got the upper hand, I'm buffed, I'm fully rested. No problem practicing my mace skills on this baddy, is there? Another gnoll scout joins in. I stay on the first one. It's half dead and I'm only slightly wounded, so my overconfidence is still guiding me. A third gnoll scout joins the fray. Reality sets in. I switch back to my trusty (and rusty) ax with which I am most familiar. One scout down, two to go. Thinking myself dead and believing this death to be a good one I spit at the scouts, saying, "C'mon! You want a piece of me?" [ooc, may I just say that the amount of "free time" I had during combat (I usually play a bard) makes role-playing a breeze!] The second gnoll goes down. DING! Welcome to level 6! "No sh**?" I think to myself. Knowing the odds of surviving a tough battle immediately after leveling, I'm now sure my life expectancy is smaller than that of a froglok in the sewers. One bubble of life left. "Evil swine! Go back from wence you came!" The last gnoll flees. Fair enough, but it wasn't headed back to the dungeon "from whence it came", so you see I had to kill it. [grins] I pursue, but a guard takes it down before I can catch it. I say to the guard, "Please stop stealing my kills." I practice binding my wounds to no avail, then sit for a bit. A gray wolf approaches. It's now reasonably safe for me to fight. Well, whether it poses a threat to me or not, I need those pelts for the party. I stand and attack. It runs. I chase. I kill it. Another nips at me. I smack it with my mace. I note an Erudite caster has just burned it. The wolf attacks the caster. Fair enough, he likely began his casting before I raised my axe, so he can have the kill. I loot the other wolf. High Quality Wolf Pelt. HIGH QUALITY WOLF PELT???!!!!!!! Cazic's Crown! I didn't know you could get high quality in the hills! The Erudite makes short work of his wolf and loots. Then says, "Did you get a pelt?" "Aye," I say, supressing my glee, "you?" "Can I have it?" the Erudite asks, "I'm a tailor and I didn't get one". I immediately stuff a whole muffin in my mouth to muffle the laughter spewing forth. [You're manners have improved(2)] Thinking quickly (a rogue's most useful skill) I say "I'm saving it for a party in Kithicore Saturday at 10 pm. If you show up you may win it." "So, how impressive is it to have a high quality pelt donated by a newbie?" Mead asks as she buffs her nails on her tunic. ;^) Peace, but more importantly Prosperity Mead of Tunare ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Welcome to the EverQuest Tunare server mailing list!
