Des'ree, the UK's leading spiritupop singer, is back with her stunning new album, 'CHIVES' released in 2003. 'CHIVES' is the first release since the critically acclaimed 'SUPERNATURAL', and is set to put Des'ree back at the top once again. 'CHIVES' is an album full of character, most notable for it's mischievous sense of humour. This is illustrated by the first track 'THE MIND IS AT TOWN', a song originally recorded in 1995 by Wiltshire band Des Ray. 'DON'T SEND THE COW TO MARKET' is a heartwarming tale of a cow befriended by Des'ree in her childhood, when she lived on a farm in Cornwall. She sings of her distress when she learns from pater that her friend is to be brutally slaughtered and its carcass sold to make burgers. 'PASS ME THE RIND' is a wry observation of the comical antics at a typical dinner party. 'STEP TO ME' follows, an uptempo number written for those of you who just love to dance! The track was originally a demo recorded for Des'ree's debut album 'MIND ADVENTURES'. 'PEAK HOUR EXPRESS' recalls a time Des'ree was late for an urgent appointment, and her distress on discovering that the peak hour express did not call at her stop. 'COOL MORNING' is a lovely, lovely song inspired by medieval tribesmen Des'ree met whilst touring the majestic Phillipines. 'MAKE SOME NOYZ, BOYZ' is a distinct garage track, in which Des'ree showcases her rapping ability for the first time. Feautured are the "crucial" Yo So Solid Crew, currently the baddest muthers to capture the chart! One to make the homies get up on their feet, yo. 'SEMINAL ATTRACTION (BAD BAD MAN)' is a sardonic account of a sexual encounter between Des'ree and a groupie. Last, but certainly by no means least, 'F**K ME IN THE ASS' is a raunchy, sexy R&B number, with Des'ree dueting with silver-haired bad boy Sisqo.
Overall, 'CHIVES' is an album packed full of personality and it sure to be a winner. Production is sparkling, by the multi-talented Yam Shmakki and the multi-racial Sampson.
