The capital city of Australia opened on 9 May 1988 by her majesty queen Elizabeth II. The building was designed by Romaldo Giurgola, of Mitchell Giurgola & THORP architects, and was constructed almost entirely of Australian materials. upper left High Court of Australia. High Court is open for visitors and also permits photographs. The building contains three courtrooms of different sizes which are used for different purposes. lower left No.1 Courtroom is used on all ceremonial occasions. No.2 Courtroom, described as the "Working Courtroom", is mostly used in cases where a full court of fewer than seven Justices is sitting. No.3 Courtroom, the smallest one, has been designed for cases which will be dealt with generally by a single Justice. |
