People everywhere are obsessed with them. The first thing that comes to mind when you say "sub-race?" is "VAMPIRE!!!111eleven" WHY?! I kill Vampires for a living; you don't want to oppose me do you? You do? *ker-SLASH* Next audience.
What is so big a draw for this? Is it the fact that you can no longer stand sunlight without exploding? Maybe it's the you'll-never-be-able-to-enter-hallow-ground again. Or maybe the having to quiver in fear when a Cleric or Paladin is near because he can Turn you like any other pussy Undead. A powerful, charismatic Turn can even cause a Dracolich to turn and run like a little flat-chested nekogirl with her tail between her legs and tears streaming out of her eyes so much that she literally creates her own river. Maybe you just want to make an enemy of every Exalted player around.
"No it's for the regen and stat bonuses!" Congratulations? I can get the same by having 5 levels of Cleric. And Vampiric Touch is a level 3 Wizard/Sorceror spell people. And on top of that, you can go to the sundry and buy a belt that gives just as much stat bonuses, or rings of regen, and still not need to worry about getting your ass kicked and hounded by the players that worked for our stats, without having a weakness to the progenitor of all life on Earth.
"Oh but MY Vampire isn't a blood-drinker." .... What..? THEN YOU'RE NOT A VAMPIRE, ASSHOLE. That's the same as saying you're a Neko that is Human/Dog mix because you're allergic to cats. You want the stat bonuses and regen and burn-in-the-sun parts but not the necessity of blood-drinking? You're a pseudo-Vampire, aka a LOSER.
Blade was not a Vampire. He was a Daywalker. Vampires are also termed Nightwalkers at times. Daywalkers are a close, but different strain. They're like a baboon and the people who want to be Vampires: the Baboon works in the day and gets things done, the idiots sleep in a coffin and then go to bite the baboon, but instead get a face full of feces.
Now, drinking blood on its own, truly, isn't an evil act. It is their sustenance; it's the same as eating meat. What makes them evil by nature: they consume Good beings as well, not just Neutral (animals) and Evil. Killing Good is ALWAYS an Evil act.
Now, being a Paladin, of course, I detest all Undead. I have a special hatred of Vampires, though: They are very intelligent Undead. Unlike their lesser brethren, who couldn't tell the difference between a stick and their anus, a Vampire retains its mind through the Undead formation. This means they're incredibly capable of blending into a crowd and decieving the greater Good.
If you come into my server as a Vampire, you are implying that you have already agreed to being the brunt of PvP from those that would kill any Vampire NPC the same. It is up to you to convince me otherwise. How do you do that? You don't consume intelligent beings. Stick to beef, bacon and bass. And don't hide.
