Week two is over, and it flew by as fast it came. As much as this was a productive week, it was just as filled with stressful problems. The week began with attaching all the sensors to the rover. We had a belt drive system, but as more weight was added to the rover, the current system no longer worked. The next step was to try gears. The gears worked for a moment, and then was a dud. In the meantime, we wrote our programs and successfully programmed all the sensors with the inevitable simple problems along the way. At this time, we had before us a fully functional rover except…IT CAN’T TURN! Unfortunately, we had to abandon our powered arm/scoop to utilize its two motors to drive our front wheels. Two motors simply did not have the power to lug our massive beast the way we need. So when things began to look very dreadful on our final remaining days of preparation, we finally have fully functional, turning rover. Our arm scoop will now mostly just push any rocks, and it is free to rise with any slopes. This week was full of ups and downs, but things finally came together in the end. Mission day is almost here!!!
