Stereo Viewing

Each stereo view consists of two images, one for each eye. Free viewing is the technique that will allow you to direct each of these images separately and simultaneously into each eye. Once that happens, you are said to have "fused" the pair of images into a stereo view.

With your face 12 inches from the monitor, blur or slightly relax your eyes and look at the green line. When you see 2 green lines, this is the action that develops free-viewing. Now try the following.

Blur or slightly cross your eyes and look at the red dots. When you see 4 dots instead of 2 dots, impose the 2 middle dots on top of one another. (ie, the right dot of the left pair over the left dot of the right pair) Once you've accomplished this you should see 3 dots. That's all there is to Free Viewing! Now try the either technique on the following picture. Look for 2 green lines or 3 red dots. Once you see either, keep them fixed and slowly look down!

You'll find that it gets easier with practice. So long as the pictures are small, you don't need assistance from an external viewer. Once the centerline of each picture exceeds the distance between your two eyes, a different method of resolving the stereo pair is required. That's where the Wide-Eyes Viewer excels. Exactly the same exercise you performed with the red dots is what you will attain moving the mirrors of the Wide-Eyes. So the stereo pairs can be as wide as your computer monitor and the 3D becomes spectacular and immersive.
