Athens Pea Pedalers Challenge

Gary participated in the inaugural Athens Pea Pedalers Challenge October 13th. Thunderstorms the night before and in the hours leading up to the tour kept the rider count down, but, remarkably, it never rained during the three hours it took to complete the 53 miles.

Here's a little of what it looked like.

Gary sports his new Lithuanian team jersey with his Polish National team bib shorts. His heritage is now totally covered. Tyler Bicycle club member Butch Willingham looks unimpressed.

Bicycle club member Sharon Morris has her own personal chauffer and bike mechanic in husband Dave.

Dave Starrett gets himself ready for the ride. At one stop he was described by volunteers as the guy that "just flew by!"

Butch checks his helmet.

The four club representatives are ready for the start which was delayed 45 minutes by threatening skies.

Sharon shows off her new bike club jersey along the route.

After the ride there was a bar-b-que for the participants at the Cain Center--an impressive building containing an indoor swimming pool, weight room, meeting halls, lockers and showers.

An outstanding first-time effort by the Athens area riders, the tour should grow in the years to come. Longer routes are planned for next year.
