Damn! I've given the game away on the opening page - yes, we made it! That's us above in Paris at La Defense, having just enjoyed a free lunchtime jazz concert (and not-so-free beers and sandwich!) - you can see the original Arc de Triomphe in the background (there's a modern Arche at La Defense).
So there you are - 230 miles (distance disputed - we had records from 4 different sources none of which tallied - so I've taken the one from the Garmin eTrek, on the basis that a satellite spinning 2,000 miles above the earth is bound to be more accurate than a computer fixed 2 feet away on the front wheel of a bike) of gruelling pedalling, our route loosely (and I use that word very loosely) depicted on the map to the left of this early example of the rambling text that will adorn this site, as the truth of our adventure unfolds...
As always, I am ever generous towards you, my readers, sympathetic to your groans of 'What!? Another page!?', that I have made it possible for you to leap (metaphorically that is, unless... well, that's up to you, naturally - or unnaturally perhaps) backwards and forwards at your whim (not sure if that last 'your' is particularly correct or necessary, but I'm not removing it now).
So onwards and upwards, dear reader - yes, I did mean to write 'upwards' - day 1 (how convenient) will explain why - now choose your starting point from the map - day-by-day (see) this time, compared to the old location-by-location format of previous years - email me to let me know if you like it or not, you know, during one of those moments when you say to yourself:'now, what exactly WAS it I was going to do....?'
