Behens and 'Les Alleux'
A memorable two nights and certainly down as a place to stay at again, Francois and Elisabeth de Fontanges were perfect hosts.

The property and grounds have been in the family for several generations. We stayed in the recently converted stable block (photo is from the second floor window). Very comfortable and spacious.  You can find more information on 'Les Alleux' by

Bed, breakfast and evening meal were supplied each of the two days we stayed at 'Les Alleux', the evening meals being exceptionally entertaining - especially the first evening (more of this later).

Food was superb, locally grown and organic - venison the first night, veal the second, and the opportunity to stroll around the gardens before partaking of an aperitif in the sitting/reception room (photo below) before moving on to our meal. Totally relaxing!

The aperitif was home-produced also - a selection of fortified wines, one 'cured' with walnuts, another a mix of local cider and Calvados. 

On our second night we were a large gathering of diners - English, French, Belgian and Dutch. The evening flew by with lively and varied conversation. Midnight sprang upon us before we knew it. It's this mixing of nations and the socialising at evening meals that makes chambre d'hote stays so unique as well as such good value.

But it was the first night that excelled, when there were just three of us as guests, the third being the irrepressible Kevin....
