THE SUPREME COURT of the VIRTUAL COMMONWEALTH of CYBERIA

Welcome to the Supreme Court Web page: The Supreme Court is the highest court in the judicial structure of the Virtual Commonwealth of Cyberia and exercises both original jurisdic- tion and appellate jurisdiction. Cyberia is a common law jurisdiction (like, for examples, England, most of the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and India). The business of the Court is conducted on the Supreme Court Forum (which is located at http://pub24.ezboard.com.fcyberia16771frm8). This Forum is the virtual courtroom and it is there that people commence cases, present their evidence and make their submissions. It is also there that the Court asks its questions, gives its directions and publishes its judgments and orders. Anyone is entitled to view the proceedings of the Court and can do so simply by attending the forum and reading what has been posted there. However, only the litigants themselves, their counsel and their witnesses, and the Court itself, are allowed to post messages on the Supreme Court Forum. Within the Forum each "topic" is a separate case and each "reply" is a submission, or statement of claim, or piece of evidence, or judgment, or some other part of the proceedings in the case. Occasionally, it is necessary for a person to make a confidential application to a judge in chambers. This is exceptionally rare (because of the importance of open justice), but when it needs to be done it can be done by e-mailing the Chief Justice or an Associate Justice. (Note, that the judge will consider whether or not confidentiality was really necessary and may publish the communication received.) Judgments of the Court become precedents and are being assembled and posted on this website. To read judgments of the Court, click on the judgments link to the right. Also to the right are other links that may be useful, including links to real-life jurisdictional legal resources that are relevant to Cyberia. It is not the desire of the Court to encourage litigation but the Court does hope that those who do litigate will be able to do so conveniently. Peter Singleton Chief Justice

Rules of the Court & Practice Guidelines The Court attempts to cater to litigants and others who are not legally trained. To this end its procedures and practices are as flexible as justice allows. However, to make cases run more smoothly there are rules and practice guidelines designed to assist users of the court to conduct their cases appropriate. To view these: click here.
